Danburry Barber and Lucha Shoes

I like this entrepreneurial stuff. I've had the opportunity to meet so many amazing people who share the excitement I feel. The latest person I've come in contact with is Drew Danburry. I first came to know who Drew was a few years ago while at a concert at Velour down in Provotown, USA. I was there for the final performer, and whilst waiting for said final performer, Drew just happened to be one of the opening musicians. It was love at first listen. It was one of the only times in my life that I've purchased a compact disc immediately after hearing someone play for the first time. You can purchase this amazing Drew Danburry music on itunes.

Last week, with the aid of a certain social network, started by a certain 26-year-old billionaire, I was informed that Drew had recently opened a barber shop in Provo (55 North University Avenue #145, Provo, Utah 84601). It's a classy place fully equipped with a barber pole. Drew doesn't just cut hair, this is the "real deal, old school quality you appreciate" with hair cuts, shampoos, scalp treatments, old-fashioned hot lather face shaves, and even head shaves with a razor offered.

Drew and I worked out a deal where he composed a sweet song about Lucha Shoes (which will be recorded soon and featured in another youtube sensation), in exchange for a couple pairs of Luchas to be given away at his new barber shop in a drawing. Go in and try out his new quality service and get a chance to win your new Luchas. Mention that you heard about the shop from Lucha, and you'll be entered into the contest to get free Luchas!

Lucha Shoes at USU Rail Jam Event

Our first official event is coming up a week from tomorrow. We'll be at the Campus Rail Jam Tour up in Logan on USU campus. The event is taking place to help kick off entrepreneur week--which fits our situation nicely :) If you're up in Logan, or know someone up there, send them up to say hello. We'll also be selling discounted Luchas there!

Here's a video of last year's event.

Full Sprint

So we've been selling our shoes for about a little over a week now, and it's safe to say that our jog has become a sprint. We're sprinting to fix some website bugs, to sell shoes, to get into a few more stores, to sponsor events, to get some videos done, and a slew of other "behind the scenes" things.

Last week I went into a high school class to talk about entrepreneurship. I talked about what it takes to start a business. Hopefully one day I'll be asked to speak about what it takes to start a successful business :) I told the students about what Lucha specifically has done. We had a contest at the end where each student wrote a paragraph on what they were fighting for, then we selected a few that we really liked and picked one of those randomly to give a free pair of Luchas to. The experience of reading their fights was completely awesome. Their stories were heartfelt and I really felt like they got the essence of fighting for something worthwhile. Their topics ranged from finding one's self, to education, to cancer, to broken families.

So here's to Mr. Gee's Evolution of Money class. Thanks for your attentiveness, thanks for your well thought out questions, and thanks for supporting the Lucha cause.

New News

If you haven't heard already, our site is up and running. Luchashoes.com We have our shoes all organized in our warehouse. We have also brought on a new partner to act as our CFO. His name is Scott Seare (picture). He has significant experience in accounting and controlling for a company that imports from China. I've known him for a few years, and we couldn't be happier about this fit. He's currently getting his MBA at Westminster. Look for a future post from him introducing himself.

In other Lucha news, this week we're in two stores. The stores are:

Violet Hill Boutique
755 North Main Street
Logan, UT 84321

Nappi Clothing
11274 Kestrel Rise Road (Daybreak)
South Jordan, UT 84095

Lastly we'd like to thank everyone who has supported us thus far. We know that we have a long way to go, but when we look back, we know we've come so far already.

someone write a song please...

So yesterday was one of the best days Lucha has known since conception. I have a favorite musician (which will remain nameless because I would probably get made fun of for loving his music) who ends every concert with a song about the best day of his life. He never really tells the story or even gives any background besides the actual lyrics. After his second to last song at every concert he simply says, "This is a song about the best day of my life" and then he plays it loud while everyone in the crowd strains their lungs singing along. It's true passion in music.

Yesterday I felt this. I wanted to write a new song and scream it out to the atmosphere. I couldn't help but smile from ear to ear on the way to my father's warehouse to meet the delivery truck with our shoes. A boisterous "HYEEAAAAHHHH" might have been yelled in my car. I may have also taken a picture of the truck as it pulled up (and the inside of the truck, and the boxes, and my dad and the delivery man taking the pallets off the truck). Ten months of hard work, ten months of anticipation, and thousands and thousands of dollars later, we actually have shoes to sell!!! It was (and still is) an incredible feeling. It was definitely the high of my day, my week, my month, and probably my year (so far :) ).

So hands down this was the best day I can ever remember... (probably not the best ever, but it was still pretty darn good).

This is what 2,000 pairs of shoes looks like. More to come shortly.
