Lucha Fights For Hope Kids

Lucha was lucky enough to be able to sponsor a Dinner Auction for Hope Kids this last weekend. We donated shoes that were then auctioned off with all of the proceeds going to help fulfill the wishes of kids with cancer. We love being able to do this.

In a separate but related matter, last night I was at my regular Monday night volleyball practice, and guess who showed up? Rachel Steele! I asked her if she knew about Hope Kids and she told me that she has attended a few of the events they have put on. She looked great, and even played some pepper with me. She still hits pretty hard as I definitely shanked a few of her hits when she decided to swing hard. She's working on getting her strength back, but should be playing more volleyball in no time. It was fabulous to see her back on the court with the team.

Lucha Shoes at Grand Kerfuffle

Last week we sponsored the Green Tee Project at the University of Utah and were able to have a booth at the Grand Kerfuffle featuring a Mike Posner concert that night. The Lucha owners were unable to attend to the booth mid-day because of other work commitments, so Nicole and Christy were kind enough to spend a few hours as amazing Lucha saleswomen! We'd like to thank them for doing such a good job.

Sowers of Hope Fashion Show

Brita Jensen recently introduced us to the group, "Sowers of Hope." The Sowers of Hope model creates self sustaining schools and immediate economic growth. They hosted a fashion show fundraiser Saturday, April 9th in Salt Lake City at Trolley Square. Lucha Shoes was privileged to sponsor the show. Some of the models even wore our shoes (see video). We gave away as well as sold shoes at the event and donated a portion of the proceeds directly to Sowers of Hope. We had a great time and we love supporting this sort of thing.

We'd like to thank Sowers of Hope for letting us be a sponsor, and we look forward to future events. If anyone else knows of similar events and/or non-profits supporting a good cause, we'd love to hear about it.

Danburry Barber and Lucha Shoes

I like this entrepreneurial stuff. I've had the opportunity to meet so many amazing people who share the excitement I feel. The latest person I've come in contact with is Drew Danburry. I first came to know who Drew was a few years ago while at a concert at Velour down in Provotown, USA. I was there for the final performer, and whilst waiting for said final performer, Drew just happened to be one of the opening musicians. It was love at first listen. It was one of the only times in my life that I've purchased a compact disc immediately after hearing someone play for the first time. You can purchase this amazing Drew Danburry music on itunes.

Last week, with the aid of a certain social network, started by a certain 26-year-old billionaire, I was informed that Drew had recently opened a barber shop in Provo (55 North University Avenue #145, Provo, Utah 84601). It's a classy place fully equipped with a barber pole. Drew doesn't just cut hair, this is the "real deal, old school quality you appreciate" with hair cuts, shampoos, scalp treatments, old-fashioned hot lather face shaves, and even head shaves with a razor offered.

Drew and I worked out a deal where he composed a sweet song about Lucha Shoes (which will be recorded soon and featured in another youtube sensation), in exchange for a couple pairs of Luchas to be given away at his new barber shop in a drawing. Go in and try out his new quality service and get a chance to win your new Luchas. Mention that you heard about the shop from Lucha, and you'll be entered into the contest to get free Luchas!

Lucha Shoes at USU Rail Jam Event

Our first official event is coming up a week from tomorrow. We'll be at the Campus Rail Jam Tour up in Logan on USU campus. The event is taking place to help kick off entrepreneur week--which fits our situation nicely :) If you're up in Logan, or know someone up there, send them up to say hello. We'll also be selling discounted Luchas there!

Here's a video of last year's event.

Full Sprint

So we've been selling our shoes for about a little over a week now, and it's safe to say that our jog has become a sprint. We're sprinting to fix some website bugs, to sell shoes, to get into a few more stores, to sponsor events, to get some videos done, and a slew of other "behind the scenes" things.

Last week I went into a high school class to talk about entrepreneurship. I talked about what it takes to start a business. Hopefully one day I'll be asked to speak about what it takes to start a successful business :) I told the students about what Lucha specifically has done. We had a contest at the end where each student wrote a paragraph on what they were fighting for, then we selected a few that we really liked and picked one of those randomly to give a free pair of Luchas to. The experience of reading their fights was completely awesome. Their stories were heartfelt and I really felt like they got the essence of fighting for something worthwhile. Their topics ranged from finding one's self, to education, to cancer, to broken families.

So here's to Mr. Gee's Evolution of Money class. Thanks for your attentiveness, thanks for your well thought out questions, and thanks for supporting the Lucha cause.

someone write a song please...

So yesterday was one of the best days Lucha has known since conception. I have a favorite musician (which will remain nameless because I would probably get made fun of for loving his music) who ends every concert with a song about the best day of his life. He never really tells the story or even gives any background besides the actual lyrics. After his second to last song at every concert he simply says, "This is a song about the best day of my life" and then he plays it loud while everyone in the crowd strains their lungs singing along. It's true passion in music.

Yesterday I felt this. I wanted to write a new song and scream it out to the atmosphere. I couldn't help but smile from ear to ear on the way to my father's warehouse to meet the delivery truck with our shoes. A boisterous "HYEEAAAAHHHH" might have been yelled in my car. I may have also taken a picture of the truck as it pulled up (and the inside of the truck, and the boxes, and my dad and the delivery man taking the pallets off the truck). Ten months of hard work, ten months of anticipation, and thousands and thousands of dollars later, we actually have shoes to sell!!! It was (and still is) an incredible feeling. It was definitely the high of my day, my week, my month, and probably my year (so far :) ).

So hands down this was the best day I can ever remember... (probably not the best ever, but it was still pretty darn good).

This is what 2,000 pairs of shoes looks like. More to come shortly.

CALL FOR ALL FIGHTS! HELP NEEDED.

We are in the final stages of getting everything together and ready to put Luchas on your feet. Part of that is getting our website pretty and ready for your viewing pleasure. We have a section called "Fight With Your Feet" where we will post pictures of your fights (worthy causes you're fighting for) with a small explanation of what you're doing.

Most of our posts thus far haven't required any sort of comments or feedback from you. This one is different. We need your ideas of what you'll be fighting for and writing on the inside of your Lucha shoes. Please post what you're fighting for, and leave your email (or if you'd rather, you can email your fights to mglauser@luchashoes.com) so we can contact you to get more information and a picture. Some ideas for fights include fighting to overcome Leukemia (thanks Rachel Steele), fighting to finish a marathon, run a triathalon, lose weight, fight pornography, fight drugs, fight tobacco, fight hunger, fight arthritis, fight violent crimes, etc. You have better ideas than I do. So PLEASE SHARE THEM!!! Everyone is fighting for something. Tell us about it. The best fights will be rewarded.

A sneak peak of the Fight With Your Feet page is below.

Final Photo Shoot

We received our "top of production" samples a few days ago and after some excellent product engineering by Dave, we feel that we have our final product.

We have previously done a couple of photo shoots--one with Stacy Young at threewinksstudio for a product shoot and an "urban" photo shoot with Matt McDaniel. Both photographers were excellent and both gave us amazing photos. Another friend and photographer, Peter Chen, was generous enough to do another product shoot for us as our shoes have changed a little bit in the last few months and we wanted to be accurate in our pictures with the product actually being sold.

Here's Peter with the shoes and his equipment. Luckily his pictures turned out better than this one on my phone :)

Happy Chinese New Year!!!

We at Lucha, LLC, would like to join our friends in China in celebrating the Chinese New Year. We decided to let our factory take a week or two off in order to celebrate. So our shipment will leave China after the celebrations are over and should get here sometime in March. We're finishing up the shipping details on our website and trying to implement a free shipping code for anyone who decides to pre-order when we go live with our website.

We're also excited to announce that we're working on sponsoring a couple of races this year.

We'd also like to thank everyone who keeps believing in us, who keeps asking when they can get some shoes, who keeps giving us contacts with other successful startups, and to those who want to see us succeed. It does help and we do appreciate it. So happy Chinese new year to all!

What are you fighting for? Keep fighting with your feet. Lucha Shoes.

Forgiveness...

Dear Friends,

Please forgive us for not posting for the longest time. The holidays were great--even though we weren't able to get any Luchas underneath the Christmas tree. The latest and greatest from the production front is that our factory has received the materials and is now cutting everything out! Luchas are being born as we speak!

We have secured warehouse space to store the shoes and we are finalizing the shipment that is supposed to be on the boat within the next week!!!

Hopefully the Luchas will bring warm weather with them! We should have them here for your feet for springtime! We're fighting hard for it.

What are you fighting for? Fight With Your Feet. Lucha Shoes.
